Just curious if anyone knows if an Apple Bluetooth Module, Model A1044, p/n 820-1449 will fit/work in my G4 MDD dual 1.25? I believe that there is a built in antenna and plug right next to the AirPort slot in my tower. If not, how about a card with the p/n 820-1696-A? I think that one is for a newer G5 but not sure either.
Any info would be great. I can't find any info anywhere and I'm looking a a module on ebay.
I had originally posted this elsewhere but I think I found the right area for the experts to take a gander...
Thanks much,
Robert

Just curious if anyone knows if an Apple Bluetooth
Module, Model A1044, p/n 820-1449 will fit/work in my
G4 MDD dual 1.25?
Nope. Apple never made an internal Bluetooth option for the G4 MDD.
However, many third-party USB Bluetooth dongles come with Mac support. And, Apple's own Bluetooth Firmware Updater is supported on the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter (hardware revision B2 or later).
Some time ago I purchased a PCI card for my G3 AIO that provided USB and Firewire external as well as 1 internal USB - Orange Micro brand, IIRC. This card is now in my G4 MMD and I installed a D-Link Bluetooth dongle in the internal UAB port. Works great and is just like having built-in Blue Tooth.
I did a little searching and I find that the Bluetooth "module" that works in the MDD G4 FW800 models is readily available. However, the Bluetooth "adapter" that was on BTO MDD G4s does not seem to be available as an add-on. I wouldn't call it an exhaustive search, but the adapter is probably not a viable option for a Bluetooth upgrade of a MDD G4.
Bluetooth was only offered as on option in G4 FW800, MDD 2002 and MDD 2003 motherboards are identical and do not feature the dedicated USB port that the BT module plugs in to. FW800 offers BT and AE vs MDD's original AP and no BT.
Well Apple did offer a BT adapter on BTO MDD G4s as noted on the Apple specification to which I linked above. Must not have been a big seller though as there is little information about that option on the net.
Actually that ebay item is the Bluetooth module noted as an option for the FW800 MDD G4s and some later Macs. The MoBo in the pre-FW800 MDD G4s isn't designed to accept it. But, if you bought it and you try it, let us know how things turn out.
The only ways Apple could have offered BT as an option on a non FW800 MDD, would be as an USB dongle or PCI card. The Apple standard BT module CAN NOT be used in a non FW800 MDD.
Carl B;
Specs for the '02 (DP 867, DP 1 GB, DP 1.25) FW400 MDD series lists a Bluetooth adapter in the "Other" section - options, I presume.
For the '03 1.25 (only) FW400 MDD, as you state, no Bluetooth option is listed under specs.
Since I already have a Bluetooth dongle in the internal USB port on my USB/FW PCI expansion card - and it works great - I really don't need this adapter. I did buy one and will check it out on my '03 FW400 1.25 MoBo. Actually purchased the adapter to try installing it in my wife's G5 iMac - bought it new but did not specify Bluetooth. Want to see if this will work. Just after we purchased the iMac, I inquired about Bluetooth and Apple said "tough luck, Charlie, nothing you can do now!" Told me the MoBos were different between no Bluetooth and Bluetooth option. Didn't really believe that. I'll know next week about both computers and Bluetooth.
