IPOD connected through Pioneer IPOD Dock and Elite Receiver

I have a pioneer elite receiver (VSX-82TXS)AND Pioneer Ipod Dock IDK-80m, the songs play but the menu functions and ipod functions are not visible on the TV. it shows an error code I1, meaning the signal from the ipod is not getting to the receiver.
I have the same problem playing the ipod in my car. you can not see the ipod menus on the dock, you can only use the ipod to navigate through the menus.
I have an ipod nano. i have downloaded the most recent software and reset.
