I currently own a powerbook and i'm looking to upgrade my computer and I'm leaning towards the macbook just because i can't afford the macbook pro. I was in the apple store and the employee I was talking to said that photoshop doesn't run very well on a macbook. I don't believe this to be true, however I was looking for a second opinion. I am a photography student and use my computer mostly to edit photos and write papers. My powerbook was an 15" with an 80gb harddrive and 512 ram, i was planning on upgrading to a macbook with 2gb of ram and a 160 gb harddrive, i also planned on buying the adobe CS3. Any opinions or knowledge on photoshop and the macbook would be appreciated. thanks.
15" power book G4, 30 gb video iPod,
Mac OS X (10.4.10)
I use CS3 on my MacBook...having Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator running at the same time and it runs great. I am a print graphic designer so I'm working with large hi-res images and I'm very happy running Photoshop CS3 on the MacBook.
If you look at the specs for Photoshop, they fit the MacBook.
MacBook 2.0Ghz C2D 2GB RAM, Mac Pro, Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.4.9)
The problem is CS2 isn't universal, its PPC only. Thus CS2 has to run in Rosetta. Photoshop is pretty large, and runs bad in rosetta.
CS3 is universal, and will run fine on MacBooks and Powerbooks.
You might want to continue to save for that MBP though. MacBooks are great(it's what I use) but Photoshop likes to have a decent video card, and Macbooks run on a underpowered Intel 950

Photoshop's only requirement is 64MB of VRAM, the MacBook meets this requirement. Unless you're running high-end third party 2D filters, I don't think the video card will make any difference. If the video card was important, Adobe would make some more specific recommendations for you. Video cards do make a difference for 3D modeling, but not really for 2D.
