Adding iPhone to existing AT&T account?

My parents have a AT&T account already i have sprint. I would like to add my iPhone onto their account. I understand it will cost the extra 20.00 a month for the data plan. Can i take my sprint number and cancel that contract and transfer that number and add it to a new line on my parents account. If so how much extra would it cost? Obviously the 20.00 but do i have to pay the extra 29.99 a month also just because i am opening a new line that is a iphone?

I have an existing AT&T family plan. When I added an iPhone to my existing line on the Family Plan, they canceled my old SIM and added the iPhone. The only cost was $20/month for the iPhone data plan (but that replaced a $40/month pda data plan for my old Treo, so I ended up ahead!). If you're going to have a new line added to a Family Plan, I imagine that would cost $9.95/month for the new line + $20/month for the iPhone data plan.

Can I make a suggestion? Go to the AT&T store. Have them add you to your parent's account and get that number transfer done outside the iTunes system. Then, get the iPhone at Apple (more likely to help if anything goes wrong) and use iTunes to set up the account for iPhone.

I got my account the night before, and it let me straighten everything out with AT&T before getting the iPhone.

thank you i will probably try that. i ordered my iPhone via the telephone at 6 on the 29th. so i will be one of the first to get it shipped out. i should have it next week. But how much more ontop of that original account do you have to pay now because you added a new iphone line to that original account?

Well, I don't have a family plan, so I'm paying what the plan I signed up for was (it was a special deal) plus the $20, so I would think you would pay what you would pay for a normal phone plan with your parents' family plan plus $20.

Maybe someone with more of a clue will chime in here.

also, when you have the AT&T store add you to their account take a nice free phone since activating your iPhone won't make a difference on you having just got that free phone days before 😉

it's good as a backup phone or to sell if you really want.

$10 for additional line (no additional minutes) and $20 for the data plan.

If you would need additional minutes, your parents would have to upgrade their plan...

I just had to add the $20 data plan on mine and it worked JUST FINE!!

Also, the AT&T store WILL NOT add the phone onto the account. That is what the iTunes registration is for. They will send you packing with the phone and tell you to do it at home.
