Headphone volume issues?

9 times out of 10 when I plug my headphones into my iPhone, one side is blasting and the other side is quiet. It sounds almost as if all the incoming sound is being directed to just one side of the headphones. Is this an iPhone issues or a headphone issues? I would try another pair of headphones, but don't have the converter to fit in the iPhone. Has anyone had similar problems?

It's possible your headphones are not plugged in all the way. Are these the Apple headphones? The iPhone audio jack is somewhat recessed, and many other headphones won't plug in all the way, giving you unbalanced audio. That's what happened to me. As a solution, I cut out a tiny little bit (one millimeter) off of the plastic sleeve surrounding the jack on my Sennheiser headphones using an exacto knife and now it's perfect.

(I'm not sure why you get unbalanced audio as opposed to audio on one side only, but that's what happened...).

The jack is recessed on the iPhones, I suspect, because otherwise it would poke out of the bevel, marring the feel.
