Invalid username or password for imap.apple.mail.yaoo.com

My yahoo mail setup is not working on iphone. I always receive an error "invalid username or password for imap.apple.mail.yaoo.com". I am 100% sure that I am entering correct password.

Has anyone experienced same problem ? I have sent an email to yahoo support waiting for reply.

i have had exactly the same problem about an hour ago. My yahoo account is working on yahoo website but not on the iphone. Not certain what the outgoing & incoming is, but it seemes that the iPhone filled these in automatically for me.

Infortunately, shortly after this, the iPhone froze up and i am yet to figure out how to unfreeze it - tried most everything so far.

Here are the steps.

4. select Y! Mail
5. enter name , adress xxxx@yahoo.com and password
6. save

after this iphone try to complete the setup and i receive error Invalid username or password for imap.apple.mail.yaoo.com

I also try to setup the account using other option
I entered imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com for both incoming and outgoing account , same error.

I have had problems with my outgoing email all day today...first time this has happened, and incoming works just fine. Email is not registering on Yahoo's website (nor making it to their destinations). I have a question into Yahoo about it, as I can't determine where the problem lies. I did do a reset on my phone, and can't see where any other problem would lie there when I go into settings for mail.

I would suggest not spinning your wheels too much on this Yahoo thing - I have found their service to be very inconsistent since I got my iPhone on Friday. They may be experiencing some problems with all iPhone users hitting their servers. My setup worked fine, then it stopped working for no reason. I would give it a few more days until they can sort this out. I doubt its anything you did wrong.

there's definitely a problem on the Yahoo side. In my browser, I keep getting "error code 5" messages where I can't get into my mail. Not always, but intermittently since Monday.

I find on the iPhone (from which I'm posting this!) where my mail is set to be checked every 15 minutes, that I only get one of the ridiculous "incorrect user name/password" messages when I check manually for mail.

Also, my Mail.app on my Mac is also having problems accessing both my Yahoo and Verizon accounts the last few days. This may be iPhone related - not sure.

Why does iPhone have problems with special characters? I had the same issue with the @ character in my password, though not with Yahoo mail. Mine was with IMAP Mail on iPhone, VPN, and Web pages through Safari. I changed my password to include only letters and numbers, and it worked after that!

There's also been an issue since iPhone came out that wasn't fixed by the 1.1.1 update today. My IMAP display name is set to "Lastname, Firstname". The comma in the display name causes it to display incorrectly in Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, and Outlook Web Access running on Exchange 2003. Everything after the comma is ignored. Other clients seem to work okay. I blame iPhone, however, since it only happens with e-mails sent from iPhone. Why does the comma in the display name cause this problem?

Why are special characters from iPhone treated differently by outside systems?
