A friend of mne prduced some dvdsofshows I'd missed. DVD player 'get disk info' reports the aspect ratio as 4:3, however the content is 16:9. I can change the aspect ratio of the video using video zoom - this works as I can get the objects in the shows correctly proportioned. BUT... what the heck is the use of doing this if the viewing window aspect ratio remains 4:3?
I've tried but can't get the viewing window aspect ratio to change, anyone know of a fix for this?
P.S. The DVDs replay using VLC by setting AR to 16:9 but that has problems of a different kind (using the positioning slider).
Does the video display the black bars on top and bottom???
My DVDPlayer.app will open into 4:3 or 16:9 depending how the disc is formatted....
There are free third party players that give you the aspect option. VLC is one and it is very good for all-around formats as well as dvd's. Videolan's download is here:

Hi Glynn
I don't get black bars I lose picture a both sides. Also, as I said, I use VLC but there seems to be a bug in there that means that I can't use the position slider, which is bad as I only have time to watch the shows a bit at a time.
