I'm trying to download a PDF file from a webpage. Safari opens the file, but when I try to save it to my desktop, it only allows me to save it as a web document, but I want to save it as a PDF. Thanks.
If I right click on the link that offers the article as a PDF, the drop down menu lets me pick "save linked file to desktop". When I choose this, it still saves the file as an html.
The same thing happens (ie not what I want to happen). Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, I'm putting my cursor over the link and pressing the control key and mouse at the same time.
Click on the link I provided. When the PDF opens on your browser screen, position your cursor over the PDF document. Then right or control/click to reveal the contextual menu.
I get a different dropdown menu with similar options but NOT with "save as" as an option. I get: open with preview, zoom, autosize, continuous, next page.
I've been using Safari 3 Beta. I just tried Safari 2.0.4 from my external drive. The contextual menu you described appears. Seems like this save function is part the new Safari feature.
You can always open the pdf in Preview and save it from there. I realize it's another step, however, at least you have that option.
