Xvid component for QuickTime

From what I read on the Xvid.org web site, they do not have a plugin for QuickTime for Windows, only for Macintosh.

If you life depends on playing Xvid encoded videos with quicktime, Quicktime version 6 works well and only Windows XP or less.

Where did you find an Xvid codec for QuickTime 6 for Windows, David?

It has been a while, I only remember when I upgraded from 6 to 7 that Xvid movies (which I watch often) did not work. I cannot remember if I had to install a Xvid component for quicktime 6 or not).
I think there are more that just the "official Xvid site" that distribute the component.

I have successfully found older software from closed websites by go to Webarchive.org and putting the url in their search box.

For example: Threemacs.com is return an error but not if you following the above instructions.

I like quicktime six for Xvid because I good cut out certain parts and save the movie (AVI) without having to reencode the whole thing. But I found a free software (Virtual Dub) that can do that also. If you don't have Virtual Dub, you should give it a test drive and its free and still supported and updated.
