SRMBP incorrect Airport error message & cannot connect to wireless network

When I set my SRMBP up originally it connected to my D-Link DSL-G604T wireless router with no problem at all. Because I live in the countryside, a long way from anyone, I have left my router network open (no security enabled - I know it's bad practice and I will change it soon...)

Anyway, the other night I started the MBP and got a message saying that airport coundn't connect to any of my preferred networks, and would I like to connect to the open D-Link DSL-G604T network instead? (The D-Link network WAS my preferred/only network, so I thought this was weird for starters. And it has always been open).

I clicked yes but then got a message saying there was an error when trying to connect to the D-Link network, would I like to try again? Whatever I did after that, I couldn't get the MBP to connect - I spent a long time trying. Then I tried other computers and had no problems at all with my old iBook or a pc notebook.

Anyone got any ideas what might be going on? I haven't been able to connect since.

Thanks,
Sean

PS I haven't discussed this with Apple Support since I am actually returning this particular computer, once I have received my replacement, because of a screen issue.

Welcome to Apple. There are numberous reports of connectivity issues and even crashes of SR-MBP machines running on 10.4.10. Engineers are aware of the problem and are supposed to be working on it. Some people have returned their machines 4 times and each time they still have the same problem. The Pre-Sr machines can be fixed by reverting to original OS and then picking up the 10.4.9 combo update for intel macs. That, however, is not an option with SR machines.

i would definitely suggest calling apple and getting a case number started. the more reports, the better. and the harder and faster they might work on it.

Hi,

Exact same issue with me. I raised a case with Apple about this but their advice wasn't particularly helpful. Their final words to me were that it was probably a router issue and to try calling Linksys/Cisco for help. Yay...

It seems that the australian branch of Apple are completely in the dark about this problem...which is great.

Here's hoping Apple do something about this issue FAST because this is the worst experience I have ever had with buying a laptop. :/
