Only 300-400 battery charges...

Is it true that the iPhone will only get 300-400 battery charges before it goes bad and has to be replaced?

That's about a years worth right?

Well, I guess i would have moved onto the next version of the phone by then anyways!

Cheers.

Understanding that Apple has made an official statement about this, consider the track record. I cant tell you how many times I have charged my iPod and I assure you its more that 300. I am assuming the phone will be the same. And so what if it needs to be replaced. Apple has a replacement program and I am sure that there will be several 3rd party vendors that will make replacement batteries that last longer and are user replaceable.

You do know that the battery is soldered in right?

Make sure you realize this is not 300 to 400 times you put the thing on a charger, it's 300 to 400 recharging CYCLES, where a cycle is effectively a complete discharge and recharge. So, if say you always ran down to 50% and then charged it up to 100%, you'd get to do this 600 to 800 times, or say only down to 25% each time, then you'd get 1200 to 1600 "charges", and even then you'd still be retaining 80% of the battery capacity.

I think this is a red-herring, you should get more-than-adequate longevity from your battery.

I just watched that video.
It really is amazing (and frustrating) the amount of misinformation that gets propagated - even by the big news organizations. Not even a small blogger, CNN! What has happened to journalism?

I think that merely omitting the part about "...80% of original charge..." is significant, and changes the conclusions one might draw dramatically.
