iTunes and iPod Video with subtitles?

I recently got a movie and it came with a subtitles file. The original format for the movie was avi and when I played it with Windows Media Player it automatically loaded the subtitle file. I wanted to convert it for iTunes so I could put it on my iPod. When I converted it, it no longer automatically loaded the subtitle file.

I was wondering if there was a way I could load the subtitles onto the video for iTunes? If I can will they carry over to the iPod?
