Playing AVI encoded with H264

Hello,
I am trying to play an avi movie file encoded with H264 and mp3 audio. QT won't open it. I have QT 7.1.3 but not QTPro. I tried importing the avi into Mpeg Streamclip but I get an unsupported file message. The file won't play with latest version of DIVX either nor Windows Media,
thanks,
AL

I had trouble understanding XINE's site but downloaded a .bz2 file and unstuffed it - but contents looked meaningless. Didn't see a player.
Nice is for 10.4 and I am on 10.3
VLC came very close - displaying the first image of the video and sound. It begins to play but stops immediately and gives a drop frame error message with "your computer might be too slow message."

I have tried Chrome, Easy Video, DIVX player and these 3. No game. Uncle.

For uninstalling all of these is it is as simple as dragging the program to the trash or do I have to hunt some files.
I installed them on my desktop only so as to not put them in my apps folder.
THanks Rick.
