DVD Player crashing, tried several fixes, none work.

So, I just got my laptop back from depot with a brand new Logic Board, Battery, Keyboard... a pretty good fixer-upper thanks to Apple Care...

However, now my DVD Player.app is not working properly... at all. I'm trying to watch Dead Like Me (S2, Disk 2) not that it really matters... I inserted the dvd and DVD Player launched and then crashed, giving me the old "The application DVD Player Quit Unexpectedly" BS. I clicked reopen, same thing. So I reported. Repaired disk permissions, attempted again. Ejected the disk, attempted again. Shut down, waited 30 seconds, restarted, attempted again. All with the same result, "The application DVD Player quit unexpectedly". The DVD is mounting and reading, it's the app that isn't operating correctly.

I'm out of solutions that I can think of, so now I come to the collective, massive brain of the Apple Support Discussion board... asking humbly for your assistance.

Thanks many,
Jax

Now isn't that interesting! No answer in 2 months. And now I have the exact same problem and message! DVD Player crashes on launch.

It was working the last time I used it—weeks ago. Since then I've upgraded to 10.4.10 and apps, but before that had a bad memory module, which was replaced. I thought the DVD Player.app might have gotten corrupted due to the bad memory so I copied the app from my dealer and replaced my original copy. No change. Ran hardware test. No problems detected. Every other app is working fine. Just DVD Player quits after launch and log starting off with:

Version: 4.6.5 (4.6.5)
Build Version: 760

I smell a bug! Surely someone can shed some light on this?

I thought I was the only one... OY!
The one and only thing I DO know is that this problem doesn't exist with 10.4.9.
I have several drives with systems installed and one I just held at the v.9. It seems that v.10 carried with it other little "House Warming Gifts" regarding Safari, iTunes and Key Chains. I have found some solutions and workarounds but iDVD remains a conundrum!

Let me just say that when I purchased my first version of OS X, then called "Tiger" some five years ago, it was for my G3 MiniTower which was considered by Apple as "legacy". I went through the tortures of the ****** installing, I pulled all the PCI cards, I pulled all the memory save for one stick, I waited for the moon to be in the right quadrant. Each and every time I booted it would get to the apple then shake violently left to right then shut down. I finally read in one obscure article about original equipment and then checked the date of my the CD-ROM drive and sure enough found that it wasn't, swapped it with one that was and VIOLA! That was about a three month process. Don't lose heart!

I am ever so happy to be out of "the world of beige", bowed but unbroken, finding the answer to one question knowing that three more questions will pop up. I think it was ArtBuchwasl who said,"dieing is easy, parking is hard!" I guess that could apply to troubleshooting, eh what!
