iPhone Ringer Volume Compared to Your Old Phone

Hi all,

OK, I've read many of the other iPhone volume posts here. However, this question is simple:

I want to know how the RINGER VOLUME on your iPhone compares to the ringer volume on your old phone. This means the phone itself, with nothing else attached.

I don't want to hear about what the volume sounds like in your earpiece (Bluetooth or wired). I don't want to hear what the speakerphone volume is when playing music in the iPod mode. Etc, etc, etc. All I want to know is how your ringer volume sounds.

For me, my first generation RAZR was TWICE as loud as my iPhone ringer when both were maxed out. I've listened to over 10 different iPhones and they were all pretty much the same in terms of ringer volume level.

When I was in the Apple store today, there is no way that anyone could have heard their iPhone ring if it wasn't on vibrate, if they didn't have an earpiece in or if they weren't holding the phone right next to their ear. What good is a phone if you can't hear it ring? It is like having an iMac without electricity.

On a scale of 0-10, with 0 being silent and 10 being so loud that most people would never use this setting, the iPhone on maximum volume to me ranks about a 5 on that scale. Thus meaning that it is barely acceptable audibly even at max volume.

So does anyone here actually think your iPhone has a louder ringer than your old phone?

Please say what model your previous phone was and approximately how old it was. Then state how the ringer volume on that phone compares with your iPhone.

Thanks.

On a scale of 1-10:

Treo: 12

(i kept mine turned down, and I have threatened to throw my cube-mates Treo out the window if he doesn't turn it to vibrate in the office)

iPhone: 2

I have yet to use the "ringer off button" since I think the ringer is off all the time. Can't hear the ringer when its in my shirt pocket 9 inches from my ear.

The iPhone volume is horribly low. That is why I logged on - to see if anyone had any solutions.

The volume for text message is a joke. Clearly the people who designed iPhone were not text junkies. They must be out of touch with what people are doing in the real world.

I love it too much to take back but lack of decent ringer volume is a serious problem.

Thanks to everyone that has replied so far.

Most of you are in the same boat as me. It is ridiculous that when you call Apple or go into the Apple Store, they act like it isn't a big deal. It is even more ridiculous that corporate Apple hasn't made any official statement about this yet, especially since the return window is rapidly closing for some. Not the best way to treat your most valuable customers, many whom waited a long time outside the store to get one.

i couldnt agree more!!!

Thanks Cocktail. I just sent the link to this thread to Apple Feedback asking them why customers' old phones have much better volume than the $600 iPhone does. There have been over 300 views of this thread to date and no one has come out saying, "My iPhone ring volume is great and it twice as good as my old phone." For a piece of cutting edge technology, overlooking something so basic is something a first grader wouldn't have let slip by.

Without the ringer working properly, it is more like the "iGadget" than it is an "iPhone."

Cheers.

Former - LG VX8100

Ringers, comparing the loudest iPhone ringer which I think is the old phone one (Which I hate)

LG - 10/10
iPhone - 6/10

I looked at it this way. I had that LG phone for a few years, so memory is weak. If I use that phone as my standard and compare the iPhone to it, I would put the iPhone at 60-70%, at best, of the volume on the LG. Hopefully this is something they will look into if enough peeps feed-back it.
