i can't drag and drop mp3 files directly to my shuffle

i have a ipod shuffle (2nd gen). i cant drag and drop mp3 files via itunes. it only allows me to put them into library and then sync it. but i dont want to sync, i just want to put mp3s directly into shuffle.

With iPod plugged in, select iPod in source pane on left side of iTunes Window. Right side of iTunes window will change to show summary screen of iPod. On summary screen in a checkbox that says something similar to manage contents manually.

This will allow you to drag from iTunes library to iPod. Does not allow using Windows Explorer to drag files to iPod.

with my old ipod (ipod nano 1st gen) i could easily drag and drop my mp3s from windows explorer to ipod by using itunes. is it itunes new version problem so that i couldnt drag and drop manually, or ipod shuffle problem.

Can only drag-and-drop if set to manual sync. Then using iTunes you can drag from library to iPod.

Not sure. My understanding was that If you used Explorer that the files were not playable. Have to use iTunes for them to be playable. Have never had Shuffle though.
