HELP! How do I connect a triton to logic pro?

Thanks for reading, i've searched this forum to no avail. I have a rather simple problem because of my lack of knowledge...I would like to connect my KORG TRITON EXTREME keyboard to record audio/midi files in logic. I (assume) it's impossible to record midi files since I dont have the Interface converter from midi in/out>>>USB ( http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno-main.html.) I plan to buy one soon but in the meantime is there a way I can record AUDIO Files using TRITON sounds with a USB cable? the keyboard works 100% as a midi controller I am able to use logic sounds 100%. The problem comes when I try to get the TRITON sounds...Does anyone know how I can go about this?? I dont mind if I'll only be able to record audio!! I reeeeeeally need help!!! Please explain in detail as I am still a NOVICE @ Logic pro!! Thanking you in advance!

P.S please remember: 1. I want triton sounds. 2. I have no midi interface at the moment. 3. I DO have a USB cable that allows me to use my Triton as a midi controller

G-5, Mac OS X (10.4.3), 1.8 GHZ. 512MB-RAM

With just those items, no, you cannot record your Triton sounds into Logic.

The MIDI data you send from your Triton is interpretted using Logic's sounds only. Basically, in MIDI format, you cannot send the sounds on your keyboard to Logic. To get those sounds into Logic, you'll have to record audio from your Triton. In order to do this, you'll need an audio interface--a device that converts audio signals to/from your computer and other hardware. These range widely in price from $100 or so to a few thousand, depending on quality, method of connection (USB, firewire, PCI) and a variety of other features.

Then, you can connect your keyboard to the interface with a standard patch chord, and record from there. There are also ways you can record MIDI data from your keyboard to Logic, and then have that data playback through your Triton and back into Logic, but this too requires an audio interface.

Hi there, I have a Triton Extreme and use it with Logic.

You don't need to buy a separate MIDI interface to record MIDI - the USB cable works perfectly well. When you plug the Triton into your Mac via USB, the Triton appears as a MIDI device from which you can record. You simply select the Triton on the MIDI track that you're trying to record and play away. If you open the Transport window and play a few notes on your Triton, you should see the notes appearing in the bottom left hand corner of the window, including Logic's best guess of chords, if you play them.

However, you can't record audio via the MIDI interface. You have to plug the audio out from your Triton into the audio in of your Mac. You can do this into the standard audio in ports on a Mac but most people prefer to have a separate audio interface (which often has a MIDI interface as well, though I don't use the MIDI ports on my audio box - I prefer USB connectors for recording MIDI).

It's all pretty straightforward when it works. However, if it doesn't, you may need to get into the Audio MIDI setup and the environment in case something has changed. However, it's just plug and go for me both at home and at work.

wait a min, i'm LOST again! Are you saying all you use is the USB cable and you get triton sounds?

"You have to plug the audio out from your Triton into the audio in of your Mac."

<<<<I have no other cables fot whatever that is. when I select an audio instument I hear no sounds from my triton, neither when I select an audio file! YES! I do see the chords as I press but I hear nothing! I am sooo Novice! once I open logic I hear no sounds from the triton Period-all it does is midi control...I am still stuck my friend! thank you

Ie You can't send AUDIO via USB on the Triton Ex, you can only send MIDI.

To send audio, you need to use the keyboards audio outputs, and connect them to your computer's audio inputs, whether the built-in ones, or a better-quality external audio insterface.

MIDI IS NOT AUDIO, AUDIO IS NOT MIDI.

s there a way I can record AUDIO Files using TRITON
sounds with a USB cable?

No. But you can sequence the Triton over MIDI using Logic while listening to the Triton using it's own audio outputs/headphone socket.

No - I'm not saying that at all. Check the audio out sockets on your Triton and you'll see they're 1/4" jacks. They need connecting to your Mac or Mac Audio Interface.

If this is still a bit rich for you, you need to get hold of a guide to music tech so that you can grab the principles of different interfaces and understand the differences between audio and MIDI.

There are a few protocols around that support both MIDI and Audio down the same cable (eg Yamaha's mLAN) but the Triton is simple: audio and MIDI down separate cables.
