DVI-I or DVI-D port in this adaptor?

Hello,
I need to realize this workflow:

HD camcorder with: ANALOG hd component signal output --> component to DVI converter --> apple dvi to adc adaptor --> Apple 23" hd adc cinema display (palastic case).

So this is my doubt: since the video signal is ANALOG, and since the component to dvi converter supports both analog and digital signals (dvi-i port), I think that it will not "transform" the ANALOG original video signal in DIGITAL signal, but that it will only transport the ANALOG signal from the component to the dvi port.

Now, these are my questions:

1) The dvi port of the apple dvi to adc adaptor is a dvi-i port?
2) And does the apple cinema display support also an ANALOG video signal trough dvi port?
3) The dvi interface "englobed" in the adc cable of the apple display is a dvi-d or dvi-i interface?

I asked the 3rd question because I think that if it is a dvi-i interface the display will work with an analog original signal, but if it is a dvi-d (digital only) monitor, it will not work with the ANALOG signal.

What do you think?
Thank you.

Just so we're clear..

DVI-D = Digital video only (TMDS)
DVI-A = VGA over DVI
DVI-I = Both DVI-A and DVI-D

In answer to your question..

1) The DVI -plug- on the DVI to ADC adapter is DVI-D only
2) No
3) DVI-D

HD Component isn't compatible with VGA (Component is Y, Pr, Pb, VGA is R,G,B), so I'd be pretty sure there's a scaler chip in the component to DVI converter box, so I'd guess it could output DVI-D signal.

I need to realize this workflow:
HD camcorder with: ANALOG HD component signal output --> component
to DVI converter --> Apple DVI to ADC adaptor --> Apple 23" HD ADC
cinema display (plastic case).

This will work if the "component to DVI converter" is
<http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=4173>

So this is my doubt: since the video signal is
ANALOG, and since the component to DVI converter
supports both analog and digital signals (DVI-I
port), I think that it will not "transform" the
ANALOG original video signal in DIGITAL signal, but
that it will only transport the ANALOG signal from
the component to the dvi port.

It generates both digital and analog outputs from analog inputs.

Now, these are my questions:

1) The DVI port of the Apple DVI to ADC adaptor is a DVI-I port?

No. It is DVD-D.

2) And does the Apple cinema display support also an
ANALOG video signal trough DVI port?

No. It only uses the digital signals.

3) The DVI interface "englobed" in the ADC cable of
the Apple display is a DVI-D or DVI-I interface?

The ADC on a graphics board contains DVD-I. Apple made a CRT ADC display that did use the analog signals, but the LCD ADC displays only use the digital signals. The ADC to VGA adapter also uses the analog signals.

I asked the 3rd question because I think that if it
is a DVI-I interface the display will work with an
analog original signal, but if it is a DVI-D (digital
only) monitor, it will not work with the ANALOG
signal.

The LCD Apple monitors need digital signals, so you will need a converter, such as the Gefen HD Mate Scaler, that produces digital signals.

Thanks to all you.
Your explanations has been very clear!

I changed the Component to DVI converter!
When it will be delivered here, using an analog Component to VGA adapter cable I'll connect the Camcorder to this VGA to DVI digital scaler:

http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/GEFEN-VGA-TO-DVI-CONVERTER-SCALER-W-ASPECT-CO NTROL-p-17017.html

It will scale the 1920x1080p to 1920x1200 or 1600x1200 too (compatible resolutions of the Cinema Display), with the aspect ratio control too!

I think that this will convert the analog signal to digital and that it will work, isn't it?

Finally: does the package of the Apple DVI to ADC adapter contain a DVI cable that will connect from the DVI output of the GENFEN SCALER to the DVI input of the Apple Converter?
If not, shall I use a DVI-I to DVI-D, a DVI-D to DVI-D or a DVI-I to DVI-I cable?

Thank you!
