Earbuds Sound Like You're in a Tunnel?

I have several employees who bought iphones and the earbuds are unusable especially for important phone calls. You can hear the other person alright but they say you sound like you're in a windy tunnel or on a motor cycle when you're in a silent room!

Does anybody else have this issue?

Is this enough for an earbud replacement or are they all bad?

Normal calls are average, speakerphone calls are poor and earbud calls are horrible.

Yes, the stock earbuds do have a mic built in. It actually have a well hidden clicking mechanism as well so you can stop/start music and answer/hang up calls.

We have 6 people who bought iPhone including myself in the office, and I haven't heard about "tunnel" effect problem.

I have not had this problem either. Maybe try adjusting the volume levels and see if that helps.

I think for free headphones and a corded handsfree headset all in one, its not bad overall.

Here in NJ its a law that you cant use a cell phone when driving and this saved me a few $$ as I didnt have to buy a pair or pay for a BT one. Its good enough for me.

Yes, I had this exact issue. Earbuds were UNUSABLE for calls - everyone says that you are in a "windy tunnel" like you said, and they can not hear anything.

I took the phone in and was given new earbuds -- Problem fixed. Still not the best sounding conversation according to others I am talking too, but definitely usable, and people can actually hear me.

Take it back to apple for new earbuds or phone (sign up for a mac genuis at your local apple retail). I didn't catch it earlier but does it sound windy when listening to music too? If that is the case then I would think a new phone is in order.
