Outlook has serious error with iTunes add-in

My Outlook (ver 2007, Vista) has been crashing repeatedely and finally came up with this warning:

"Outlook experienced a serious problem with the ‘outlook itunes sync addin’ add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?"

I didn't disable the add-in. But clearly there is an issue between Outlook and iTunes.

Known problem. You can disable the add-in so that Outlook will work again, but doing so disables your ability to sync contacts and calendar with the iPhone. Hopefully Apple will address this. Problem popped up in the V7.3 release of iTunes.

This could be solved by creating an exception in your System Control Panel for iTunes, Outlook, and your iTunes Helper. In my case, DEP (Data Execution Prevention) was the culprit preventing the two from working together. Once I created the exception in DEP, everything worked well.

You can't. DEP is in Vista. The problem is not limited to Vista as both my Vista and XP boxes suffer the same problem.

Does this have anything to do with iTunes not coming up when plugging in the phone?It seems that if I sync and then disconnect the phone, I cannot sync again at all. I have tried reseting the phone, powering off and on, and restarting Windows. Still won't work. Any ideas if this is related?

My ITunes no longer opens automatically when I dock the phone either. I wonder is this is part of the issue too!

DEP is also an option in most BIOS setups. However, in a BIOS, DEP is either "on" or "off". If you are running XP and have your DEP turned on in your BIOS (which is not the default of most manufacturers), you will have to go into your BIOS setup and turn it off.

If DEP is your problem - it was mine.
