iPhone in Colombia

Any one knows when the iphon comes to latin america or better for colombia i dont get the money to trip to usa and we dont have AT&T only Comcel, Movistar, Tigo

Apple has not announced anything about the iPhone being available in Latin America so you must wait until Aople releases such information since no one here knows anything about Apple's future plans for that part of the world.

ok but you know why AT&T is the only one that can have the iphone if the iphone is unlocked by AT&T y can used here in colombia?

AT&T and Apple signed an exclusivity deal in the USA. Until that agreement expires, no other carrier will be able to have the iPhone in the USA. As has been explained to you, Apple has not mentioned any plans for selling the iPhone in Latin America yet.

AT&T will not unlock the iPhone sold in the U.S. because the iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T Wireless only requiring a 2 year contract. None of the iPhone features work until the iPhone is activated with AT&T Wireless via iTunes.

ok and sorry by the questions but if i have the contract with AT&T in the U.S.A. and i request roaming to colombia it works? i look in the AT&T page and shows me that comcel(Gsm, Gprs 850) and movistar (Gsm, Gprs 850, 1900) works i can do that and if it is possible they give me i keep the AT&T sim card or here in colombia they Give me anew from the local operator

Yes, but international roaming is expensive and if you roam too much, AT&T may cut off your account. So it's not a solution if you live in or spend most of your time in Columbia, even presuming that you could open an account with AT&T in the US (doing so requires a US billing address).

One more time - the iPhone is sold in the U.S. as CARRIER LOCKED WITH AT&T WIRELESS.

Your local provider's SIM card WILL NOT WORK with the iPhone.

AT&T's SIM card is the only SIM card that will work since the iPhone is carrier locked with AT&T Wireless.

you dont understand my question if i request international roaming how they do a keep de AT&T sim card here in colombia that i dont think so becouse the operator dont recognize the sim or my operator give me one here

You are the one who does not understand.

If you request international roaming with AT&T Wireless and this is approved, no SIM card swapping is required to use the iPhone or any AT&T Wireless phone and SIM card when roaming internationally but regardless, YOU CANNOT USE another cellular provider's SIM card with the iPhone sold in the U.S. since the iPhone is sold in the the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T Wireless only.

Carrier locked means you cannot use another GSM network provider's SIM card with the iPhone.

No. The sim card and phone will work in Columbia. Its quad band - word everywhere. No other sim card will work. Only an At&t card will work. International roaming is don on your account.

Furthermore your account must exist in the US.
