New Macbook pro will arrive tomorrow, need help on backing up my PB

Finally, I made up my mind for a brand new 2.2 Macbook pro, the MB will come tomorrow, I have a buyer for my powerbook today, I have to back up my data before I sold it to him. What's the safest way to back up? Which folder should I back up beside, itune, iphotos, mail, etc. Thanks Alex

I would advice NOT using migration assistant when going from a PPC Mac to an Intel Mac. I've read enough posts here of new Intel Mac users having messed up machines after using migration assistant when coming from a PPC machine. Just transfer needs files from an external backup.

If you have an external drive, just make a backup with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.

You don't really need to back up anything. I would just connect a Firewire cable to the Powerbook and Macbook Pro at the same time. While connected, reboot the Powerbook while pressing "T." This converts your computer into essentially a disk. Then, use the Migration Assistant to move only those things you need from your Powerbook onto your Macbook.

As others have said, cloning PPC system files and such onto an Intel machine could mean trouble. That's why you should select the things you want to move in Migration Assistant very carefully. If you only select, for example, your photos or music, you should be okay, because there is nothing PPC-specific in those folders.
