Q: Why does my Lombard power down?

I have a lovely Lombard 333, 320MB RAM, with 40GB HD in 2 partitions, Thing 1 is 9.2 and Thing 2 is 10.2. I mostly use it in 9.2 because the Airport likes my Wavelan card and I like 9.

If I allow it to go to sleep, because I get distracted, and I tap the keyboard after a rather short time, it wakes right up. If it sits a while longer, when I hit the keyboard to wake it up, instead it makes the starting chime and shuts down. I have to disconnect the battery and power and then reconnect them before I can start it up, and then of course I get the Improperly Shut Down message.I think it does it in X as well, but I rarely use it so I'm not sure.

What would probably be causing this?

Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Sludgedragon,

Your battery may be about to die. I hope not, but that is what happened to our last one.

I hope not, too, I'm still getting a couple of hours on this battery that came with the machine last year. But I have checked and it doesn't do that thing while plugged in, I don't think. Oh, well, if it goes, it goes...

    Hi,

I don't have a Lombard, but it might help to reset your power manager. This is a cut and paste from another posting about a sleep problem where the magnet in the screen bezel was suspected.

    Resetting the Power Manager:

(shut down, hold shift-function-control-power for 5 seconds, note that the sleep light blinks, wait 5 seconds, press Power).

If that doesn't help, you shoud look through previous postings for similar problems and solutions offered, or try trashing your power settings prefs file.

    Good luck,

    MacMichal
