File Sharing over Ethernet not working

This is driving me nuts! I'm simply trying to get a MacBook and a G4 (both running TIger) connected for file sharing via Ethernet.

I have Personal File Sharing "On" for both computers.

I have the computers' Ethernet IP addresses set as 192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12.

Network Status says that Ethernet is active and has an IP address of 192.168.1.11 or 192.168.1.12

I use "Connect to Server..." in the Finder and type in either the name of the other computer ("G4.local") or the IP address ("afp://192.168.1.11/") and I always get the "server can't be found at this time" message.

This happens with both computers.

I've had it working before and can't for the life of me figure out what else I need to do!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.10)
