Driver problem with 60GB fifth generation Video iPod

I am trying to sync up my iPod for the first time. I already had itunes on my computer and used the install CD that came with. My computer recognizes that is an iPod that is connected through the USB port. In device manager it shows a yellow question mark icon with an exclamation point over the top and has the word iPod immediately following that. When I right click on that line it gives me options of reinstalling drivers. It does not find tham on the install CD or on my computer. This is the error message I get:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

When I go to iPod Updater and try to update the software on my iPod I get this message:

Invalid iPod service version

Tried the "5 R's" a couple of times now, uninstalled and re-installed itunes and restrated I don't know how many times and even unplugged all othe USB devices as to not confuse the computer and still NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!

Please help me if you can.

Thanks,
Jerry
