google and gmail

For the past three days safari has been hanging when I attempt to use google, gmail in the nav bar or the search bar in safari version. 2. java and cookies are enabled, I've cleared the cache and reloaded or rebooted. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem with any google related site and also with hotmail. Both on Safari and Firefox. I contacted hotmail and they said it was a problem with safari and I must resolve the issue with safari...somehow I feel google will say the same??? I am able to access my hotmail account and google from a friend's PC using IE (he's not on my internet network).
I have tried emptying the cache, emptying the history, deleting all cookies, upgrading to the latest version of safari, making sure no proxies are checked under preferences>advanced>proxies>change settings, and rebooting a million times to no avail.
I hope someone can resolve this issue!

Just to update, someone in the forums suggested that the ultimate fix for this Google issue was to buy an Airport Extreme. Drastic perhaps, but I did it, and I couldn't be happier. My aging Belkin Pre-N was very fast, but the AE is even faster, and I'm only using it as a G router. The signal strength is better, the time to get onto the network with my Powerbook and iPhone is faster and the throughput is almost as if I was connected directly to ethernet (I'm in a small NYC apt...YMMV).

Oh and no more Google issues.

Leave it to Apple to have a problem with their software that's best addressed by using their hardware, making you buy it begrudgingly, then making you sorry you didn't do so long ago.

I am having the same problem. Using Open DNS entries fixed access to google but Gmail continues to time out when I try to load my inbox. Keychain firstaid and Safari reset did nothing. Switching between Safari and Firefox does not make a difference. I have Zoom wireless modem/router. Swbell is my provider. I have a Windows/XP machine using the same router and it is not having the problem. Genius Bar person here in Houston said that Mac's can't be hacked Mac OS X System Adimin Ref Vol 1 does mention a vulnerability in this area using a java script.

I have seen similar behavior via malware on a windows 2000 desktop. (Hosts file on Windows 2000 had a custom setting www.google.com as 127.0.0.1. My hosts file is clean.

I have the same problem. Maybe an Airport update caused this issue. None of the solutions written here worked, me and my sister ara on the same wireless network and I can browse google from her machine. I am going to reinstall MacOSX and will see what it results. Buying an airport router would be a bit drastical solution - I don't think apple blocks google to enforce us to buy an apple router 🙂.

I, too, am having this problem on both Safari and Firefox. We've isolated it to the encryption on our Netgear router (my husband has a PC; I have a MacBook). It works fine on other networks and our own network when no encryption is in place, but as soon as we put in WPA or WEP encryption, Gmail and most other Google sites don't load. This has been a problem for about 2 weeks.

Is this a bug with Airport?
