Hi:

Just to say that I only use Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ (professional quality) with my DVX-100 with great results and as you have been told never change from one brand to another, i.e. from Pana to Sony tapes. If you need urgent a tape and you don't get same quality, just get some of the consumer ones but allways same brand.

And don't forget what are question answers?

Hope that helps !

Use one brand of tape only. Some companies use a wet lube, some dry. They don't mix well and the switching back and forth can result in gunked up camera heads.

Don't reuse tapes. Use tapes once then store them. They are your back-up.

Don't preblack tapes. It's a waste of time on the camera heads, your time and does nothing for you.

Store the tapes in a cool dry environment.

Generally, purchase name brand professional quality and you'll have few issues. I've used the Panasonic PQ series for years with great results.

Good luck at school.

In addition to Studio X, I completely agree with : never use differ brand tapes (especially within same project), and never use it twice.

I use DVM60EXL from Sony, and that is one above this one which is DVM60EXML that comes with 4k bit IC chip, but I never optimize that feature, so I only use the first one.

And if you only use that one time and store them in suggested storing environment, any good brand tapes will be reliable for editing over and over.

Make sure you have a back up on Hard Drive or another tape using http://www.coolatoola.com/ if you can just incase you come accross failed tapes.

Good Luck
