Wanted: silicone skin/case for MacBook Pro ...

All,

I swear I have seen these out there before, but not sure where to locate them.

Trying to find a protective cover for my MacBook Pro made of silicone rubber. Have seen the plastic "snap on" cases that many vendors offer, but those seem a little clunky. I just need something that will wrap around the unit and fend off little scratches, bumps, and scrapes -- much like the ones made for the iPod and iPhone.

Anyone out there assist with my search?

SB,

First welcome to discussions, you will find these forums very helpful.

A Google search found only silicone keyboard skins.

I think that the reason you may not find a silicone cover for the whole case is that silicone is a very good insulator. As you will discover if you do processor intensive work with your MBP sitting on your lap, the thing becomes very warm. The MPB dissipates a lot of heat through the case.

The case is actually designed to come in contact with very little of the MacBook Pro. Neither my MacBook nor my MacBook Pro have shown any sort of scratches from the case. As mentioned, the case itself can scratch just as easily as any other plastic... but that's the point in using it. Better to have scratches on the cover than on the notebook itself.

I, too, was afraid that the Speck Products clear protector was going to negatively affect the "look and feel" of my sleek 17" MBP. But I didn't have to worry - it is a great protector, and my MBP looks great in it.

Speck Products' case has plenty of ventilation cutouts, too...unlike some cheapie knockoffs out there.

I would recommend against the black one though... I'm not very happy with the way it looks. All the other colors have a nice tint to them... but you can clearly see the Apple logo through them... even when it's not powered on. I thought the black would be similar... just a bit smokey... but it's almost opaque. Even when it's on, you can hardly see the lit up Apple logo through it... and when it's off... it just looks like a black slab (and it shows dust really easy). It still does it's job... but I'm seriously thinking about getting a different color.
