"Your Account is Temporarily Unavailable" error (in US)

Since July 10th, I have been getting an error in the iTunes US Store whenever I try to buy music that says "Your Account is Temporarily Unavailable. The store is unable to access your account information. You may continue to browse the store. Please try again in a few minutes."

I have tried logging in, checking my account settings, etc. Am I the only one? It's so frustrating.

iMac 5.1, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 2.16 GHz

You are not the only one. It is not the version of iTunes you are using. I have not been able to purchase since July 5th. I have had several emails with support and all they can say is that there is a problem. In typical useless fashion support can say nothing else. You would think they could have fixed such a simple problem by now. But there you go! friggin useless!!!
