Question

iPod stuck on black reboot screen and won't boot up

I realize I made a mistake now. I went to Disk Utility and formatted my iPod for UNIX file system. I wanted to be able to plug it into a Linux machine and copy some files over.

Now the iPod is stuck on the black reboot screen with the dim Apple logo. I can hear the hard drive in it attempting to boot up every few seconds.

I can't get iTunes to see the iPod when I plug it in the dock. I can't even get my Mac to see the iPod now.

Any suggestions on how I can Restore it? Or did I kill my poor iPod?

17" iMac Intel 2 Core Duo, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 80GB iPod 5G

Hi Christopher

Have you tried connecting your iPod with USB and using Disk Utility to format the iPod as HFS+?

I tried it a few times this morning and it doesn't seem like my Mac can even communicate with the iPod when it is on the black reboot screen. I will try logging out and back into Tiger and see if that helps.

Hmmm

With it connected and Disk Utility open, try resetting the iPod (holding down centre button and Menu). You may be able to begin a disk format before it is able to restart and lock up =0)

Your suggestion is correct but I have to have it in Disk Mode first before I can format it back to HFS+ and then Restore.
