iPhone is available to work in PUERTO RICO?

I'm interest to buy an iphone to domicile it in P.R. Do it will work properly?. AT&T has already excellent coverage but the stores cannot sold or activate with area code of Puerto Rico. My doubt is that if I can activate it in US and bring it to Puerto Rico, it was working ok?. And if when AT&T could activate numbers with area code 787(PR),if it will be possible to change the number that had of US the PR one that I'm already use?

i travel to puerto rico constantly and cingular even has 3g service in the san juan area as well as mayaguez.there are no roaming charges, its a us territory you are not on foreign land.ive benn all over the island and never have been without service or been charged a roaoming fee. as for activating the phone in pr, i really woundt see why not especially if you are upgrading all you would have to do is enter your current number that has the 787 area code..

I live in Puerto Rico, my sister lives in Florida. I'm helping her move into her new place, and while I was here the iPhone arrived. We bought 3 (one for me, one for my sister and one for her husband), both of their phones activated without a hitch, but when I entered my phone number (787 area code) it said that it could not be activated. After spending 2 hours on the phone with several AT&T representatives, I found out that you cannot activate the iPhone with a phone number of a place where it has not yet been released. I ended up adding a line to my sister's account, stripped my 787 number of its data plan, and forward all calls to the iPhone, but they told me that as soon as it is released in PR, we can have them activate it with the 787 area code. I heard that the iPhone is being released in Mexico and Europe around Christmas, sooo...maybe by then ^_^.
Hope this helps

I activated mine from Oklahoma to use it in PR. There aren't any long distance/roaming charges since National plans include PR and US Virgin Islands in AT&T's coverage area. You can even activate it from PR provided you have an US address (friend or family), as soon it is activated you can change the address back to a local one as I did. However you won't be able to change the area code to 787 'til the iPhone is released in the island. Im back in the island and I'm happy with my 918 area code until then...tirame un email y hablamos...
