Thank you, Apple...

I'm a fairly demanding consumer and 20+ years of Apple ownership has taught me to demand the best and rail against mediocrity. I must admit that I had little interest in a new phone, but I'm an early adopter of all things Apple, and so I gave it a try.

I must admit that I am completely undone by this device. It has become my constant companion, able to serve up music, movies, television shows, conversations with friends and family, answers to all my questions (via Safari) and all with an elegant and overwhelmingly intuitive interface. The concept is flawless, and the execution, nearly so. There will be more apps, and minor glitches will be smoothed out, but we are looking at a leap forward in design that is without comparison in modern times.

To use the iPhone is a wholly indulgent experience. I know no less than a dozen people, none of whom where Apple owners before, who have purchased an iPhone and are just now experiencing the jaw-dropping design that Apple is capable of. Mr. Jobs is a savvy man...notice how much of the new release of OS X is iPhone-like. I expect Mac sales, finally (and deservedly) to soar.

But for my new companion, all I can say to Apple is, humbly, thank you.

I'm with you, though I am not an early adopter in general; I was late to the mac party and bought my 2 laptops, then ipods, well after release. Unusually, I started counting down the days until the iPhone was to be sold the minute it was announced- six long months ago, I believe- though I was mocked by all of my friends all that time. I am happy to say that my gut instinct was right- this device is everything I wanted, and more!

Never having owned one of the hand-held devices already on the market , I was really eager to be able to websurf without an expensive data plan, keep a calendar and notes. I never intended to use this for e-mail other than in an emergency- but it's so amazing and fun to use, I find myself checking for even my work-related mail regularly. I've taken some great candid photos as well, which was also not a priority pre-purchase. The iPod is superior to and has replaced my nano, thus I have one less device to carry around. I may be lighter in the wallet, but my bag is lighter now, too. (Quite possibly worth the price for that alone!)

And those friends to whom I referred? They are green with envy. The minute I take it out of my pocket someone wants to play with it! My IT guys begged to see it and were transfixed; one skeptical friend's eyes grew big as he said "this thing really is that great." Every last one of them now plans to buy one when the price drops. Really, though, they have no idea how terrific it is from the time they have spent with it- it gradually becomes an outgrowth of your hand, thanks to its brilliant design, and your head, in that it truly is an invaluable tool for modern life. It's been just two weeks- but I can't imagine life without it.

I was traveling on launch day and did not try the iPhone until the following Friday. I had every intention of waiting for the next version of the iPhone before buying. After trying it in the store, I couldn't imagine going back to a regular phone. The only thing better than the demo is seeing your own contacts, iTunes, bookmarks and calendar on it.

The words "insanely great" come to mind!

I was determined to wait too. I passed by an Apple store, played with a sample for about an hour, went home and thought about it and thought about it. I woke up the next day and announced I am buying it today, nobody can stop me.

There is nothing that has dissapointed me. I knew what to expect so I didn't start out looking for the moon. Everything has met or surpassed my expectations. Thanks Steve.

I can't keep my iPhone out of other peoples hands. I have to tell you I live in Wash, DC was the first in line at Tyson's Corner to get and iPhone. Any report from the road. I travel at lot for work and this past week came to Ricmond for a gig. The iPhone is like nothing out there it just works. I watched movies on the way down recieved calls made calls got emails no problem. Att edge, well I didnt really need it. The iPhone found WIFI every where I went, my hotel room, bars, riding down the street in the cab. Apple congrats from i now 6 year Apple user, I don't miss my blackberry and that's not a knock at RIM.

Thank you, Apple...
