I prefer the "Sleeve" type.
It protects the MBP keeping anything from migrating into any of its openings and can be carried in any standard brief case thus not letting others know the value of its content.
I use the expandable brief case to permit more peripherals to be carried incognito.

Either the Pro 17 or the Pro 15/17 Backpack.
Great protection, good design, great construction. You can also order from the Apple store. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. The only down side is it's clear what you are carrying, especially the shoulder style. If you need something incognito go with what Tom suggested. Hope this helps.

The Italian bags from Tucano are very well made and offer a great fit. Some of the 17-inch models are listed in the on-line Apple Store and most recently, Disk Copy Labs (DCL) offers direct purchase via a Tucano/US site.

I would love to second the recommendation on the Brenthaven Pro 17 - I bought one with my MBP last year and I love it! However, it seems they have discontinued it.

If you're interested in a backpack style, they do have that. Brenthaven quality is excellent.
