Quicktime 7.2 stuck on "Loading"

Recently, my Quicktime hangs upon first starting the application - it just brings up the blank white window and says "Loading".

Anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

(I have already done the usual: 1)repair permissions, 2)delete any quicktime preference files, 3)re-installed 10.4.10 Intel combo pack)

Not sure if this is related, but it also seems to be affecting some other programs - like ichat, adium, etc. they will open and work but will not quit - I have to force-quit each time...

QuickTime Preferences / General tab
Remove the check mark to "Show Content Guide automatically".

It could be many different things. Inside the QuickTime Player resources in a file named "trampoline.mov" and it "bounces" (get it) to a reference movie that redirects to:
/f/654/39/5m/qtpix.apple.com/qtpix/current/content guide_07_122007.mov
served by Apple.
The trampoline movie only contains an image file that says "Loading" and then it searches for the second (online) reference movie which then launches the current (todays date) content guide movie.
If you are offline when you open QuickTime Player obviously the second two files can't be found so all you get is the trampoline movie.
Other network errors can also cause issues. You can launch the Content Guide from the Window menu of QuickTime so turning it off at launch isn't such a big deal.
