8gb vs. 4gb

8gb vs. 4gb

I am going to purchase an iPhone, and i am wondering how much video the 4gb phone will hold, to gauge if it would be worth it to pay the extra $100 for the 8gb. So maybe in terms of hours or movies, how much video will the iPhone 4gb hold?

It all depends on the file size, just go for the 8gb, you know " Bigger is better"...LOL

If you can spare the extra $100, go for the 8GB. No one has ever complained of having TOO much space.

True, but I am fairly young, and most certainly not rich haha, so $100 would be important to save if i could

at anyones best estimate a number of hours would be much appreciated, i wont hold anyone to their answer as exact 🙂

It depends on the size and quality. I have about 2 hours of some clips and its taking up about 2GB.

I bought the 8GB model and it wasn't enough for my collection (not even close) - I would've much preferred a hard drive based model. To give you an idea of what's on mine:

Music Videos: 110 from Apple Store. 6.9 hours total, 4.77GB

Music: 257 songs (~3 min in length, ~128KBPS I believe): 15.3 hrs, 1.25GB

Video Podcasts: 38 episodes, 3-5 minutes in length, 2.8 hours, 1.05 GB

That comes out to just above 7GB and my iphone currently has 83.9MB free.

So that should at least give you an idea of what you can fit on it. With the iphone OS installed, I dont know how much free space the 4GB has, but I'd guess about 3.3-3.5GB, and that can probably fit about 4-4.5 hours of video before it maxes out.

If 8gb will not hold your entire music collection, then it's not really worth buying one.

because if you can't have it ALL then why have 4 gb's extra of SOME of it? if you understand my point.

That's why I chose the 4gb model. Since I cant have it ALL...then 4gb and playlists is plenty. As a result, I have roughly 2.5GB still available. If I had an 8GB, I would have 6.5gb available, meaning I would have wasted my money.

Actually, you get more than double going from 4gb to 8gb, as the OS seems to take up about .75 gb. So the 8gb phone actually has 7.27 gb of usable storage, and I assume the 4gb phone will have about 3.27gb.

On my 8gb phone, I currently have 4.67 gb audio, 1.60gb video, 0.54gb photos, 0.03gb other, and .4gb free space. This represents 1110 songs or 2.9 days of music plus a few dozen podcasts, a bit under 6 hours of video, and about 850 photos.
