iTunes 7.3.1 for Mac OS 10.3.9 problems!

when I installed iTunes 7.3, I had no issues with it. last night, I was notified that iTunes 7.3.1 was available, and I proceeded to install iTunes and Quicktime. after installing iTunes 7.3.1, it no longer works w/out crashing every time. it goes to update my library, but crashes prior to fully updating my library. I tried to repair permissions, but that didn't solve the issue.

Anyone else having this problem? I was planning to find 7.3 and downgrade to that version for now, unless it is unavailable! thanks for your help!

I'm seeing this problem too, on a client's G4 533 MHz running OS 10.3.9. I've narrowed it down to something in the main Library folder--it's not in the user's folder, since it happens in a test account too. I'll keep you informed with what I find.

The problem with iTunes 7.3.1 is that upon launch, iTunes is forced to 'update library!' according to apple, 'iTunes 7.3.1 addresses a minor problem with iTunes 7.3 accessing the iTunes Library.' this is not the case, and I think the only issues with the library file were on Windows PCs. I never had any issues.

delete your library file if you are willing to recreate your entire library by hand, and the problem goes away! otherwise, you can download iTunes 6.0.5 here --> ( http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605formac.html)

The same problems for me. iTunes works fine for listening, but it tends to send my G5 into sleep mode when I try to watch any sort of video feed. It will allow me to download CD's for a short time, then again it puts my computer to sleep. I've knocked over a glass of wine or two banging on my desk in frustration. I think Apple needs to put its tech people back into its opperating and support systems now that the iphone is out so they do not lose the computer users who helped to build this company.

Here's how I solved the problem with iTunes crashing under 10.4.10.

As a poster above mentioned I reverted ShapeShifter to original settings, downloaded and reinstalled iTunes, then opened ShapeShifter and re-invoked the settings as before.

iTunes now works as intended, though I will admit it closed unexpectedly one. Since then everythings OK.

I'm assuming that anything that puts themes in other apps will do this, but that's just assumption.

same problems here. Updated to 7.3.1 from 7.3 on a os 10.4.10, as soon as i did this and restarted computer, it messed my system up. I am now looking at erasing my internal hard drive and reverting back to the old system.

As people have mentioned I think the problem comes from accessing the library files... would get through about 90 of update and freeze, only option to reboot, even then my mac wouldn't reboot properly.

Even now when I try and erase itunes off the hd, it won't delete saying that it is still in use (restarting comp. doesn't solve this problem), bizare. Wish I researched more feed back before assuming itunes would be cool, cause now I have an awesome that works like a piece of junk... thanks itunes!
