Voicemail not playing thru BT car kit

The iPhone Bluetooth currently only supports telecom headsets and, by proxy, compatible Bluetooth 2.0 EDR in-car handsfree systems. And to have in-car systems support 'Visual Voicemail' per se, would require both support from Apple and the in-car system designers (auto makers). Apple would need to support the playback of the audio files through the Blutooth interface. The in-car system designers would need to add support for the controls necessary to call up the visual voicemail files for playback. Otherwise the user would need to maninpulate the controls directly on the iPhone, which would defeat the basic purpose of the handsfree system.

There is a workaround, however... You can access your voice mailbox as a normal call, just like you would with any cellular phone. Just call your cellular phone number, enter your mailbox password, and retrieve your mail.

Not as cool and direct as visual voicmail on the handset, but it works.

Ensure your BT device is sync'ed with the phone. If this is the case, when you select your Visual VM, you'll see an "audio" button in the upper right hand corner of the screen. (prior to actually selecting the VM). Push this button, and it allows you to select your BT device. Same goes for other wireless headsets (ie Jawbone)

Just tried it. No sound through the car. The iPhone speaker works OK, but is somewhat sensitive. It reverts to soft, and then loud when I hit the speaker icon on the upper right.

I just called the phone from the car. It went directly to my voicemail. Didn't even ask for a password. I was able to process the messages easily. So, the only thing missing is the visual voicemail. Not such a big deal. A suggestion would be to create a contact called "voicemail car" and just enter in your cell phone number. Good luck.

Some times on my phone I have to press Audio on the Voice Mail screen and select BlueTooth Headset even though I have been using the Blue Tooth to make and recieve calls. Maybe when you get in your car you could open Voice Mayl and check the audio out put. I don't know why it does this.
