phone not charging

Hi,

My 8bg iPhone will not charge when I plug it in. It charged just fine last night. The only thing I did today that I had never done before was to put it in Airplane mode a few times to avoid interruption. I doubt that has anything to do with whether it charges or not.

I powered the phone down and then restarted, but still will not charge. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

I had the same problem. It turned out my adapter went bad. The Apple store replaced it and everything is good now.

Ok, so I took my charger, dock, cable and iPhone into the Genius Bar today. The guy plugs in an iPod using my wall adapter and it charges fine. Takes my cable and it charges fine. Plugs the cable into my iPhone and it charges fine. Just before I left I tried to charge it via 3 different outlets without any luck whatsoever! I was pretty steamed when it worked and there was nothing I could argue about.

When I first got home the charger worked in one of the outlets that it didn't the day before. Then my battery was getting low so I went to plug it in and it charge. My battery was completely dead so my iPhone wouldn't even turn on so I let it sit for a few minutes to see if it needed to charge for a few minutes before it would display anything. No luck. I brought it to my computer and plugged it in, it's recognized (iPhoto and iTunes launched), but the battery screen didn't come on even for a brief second and I cannot get the phone to turn on even when plugged into my computer.

What the heck is going on?

Not sure exactly what was causing my problem, but all of a sudden my wall adapter has become reliable again after my trip to the apple store and my brief bizarre experience described above.

One thing I did learn is that if the phone is powered off and plugged into your computer it is recognized/mounted by the computer but you cannot power it on until it's unplugged.

Yes, Apple will send you a replacement -sometime. I've been waiting a week and they haven't shipped it yet. The problem is clearly widespread; Apple is either out of stock on the adaptors, or they've discovered a manufacturing defect that has caused them to reject a batch. Very, very inconvenient, as I'm getting ready to go on vacation and I don't want to take my computer with me just to keep my phone charged!
