How to check my hard disk's speed (RPM)

What system utility or command would I use to check the official RPM of the hard disk (i.e. to see if it is 5,400 or 7,200 RPM)?

There's no direct way to read this out on your MBP.

Go to System Profiler (Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info button, click on Serial-ATA in the list on the left, you will see Model: with a model number to the right of it. Select that model number and paste it into Google to get your info.
