Incorrect Timestamp on Emails

I have an IMAP email account. When the emails get downloaded to the INBOX on my iPhone, the date/time is off by 4 hours. For example, if the email came at 9:30 PM, the inbox shows the time as 1:30 PM. However, when I open the email, the time on the header is accurate (i.e, it shows as 9:30 AM).

When viewing email in any other folder, the time is correct. My time zone settings are correct too. I have reset the device at least twice, but the problem still persists!

The same email when it is downloaded to the inbox (in Outlook) on PC, displays the correct time. No issues there!

Has anyone else encountered the same problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Teligent,

Is your email provider using Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Universal Time Code (UTC) on their mail server perhaps? (Which is 4 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time, 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time)

If so, the time you are seeing may be the time stamp placed on the email by the server, and the iPhone hasn't adjusted it for your timezone yet.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.

I am not sure if I understand your question correctly, but...

In the INBOX, where all the emails are LISTED, the timestamp on the header is INCORRECT. When I tap an email to OPEN it, the timestamp shown on that header is CORRECT. So, the bug is when I am viewing the LIST OF EMAILS in the Inbox, the timestamp shown there is WRONG.

Hope it makes sense.

Teligent,

When you are looking at the message in the inbox list, it is reading the time from the message header, it might not have been adjusted for your time zone.

However, I was curious if you look on Outlook, at the full headers of a message, most programs hide about 90% of the headers in a message.

For example, there will be typically 3 or more lines that start with "Received from" and include a time stamp. For example a timestamp might look like this: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 06:00:39 -0700 (PDT)

Those timestamps are set by the server you are downloading from, and then are adjusted to local time after the messages are received. I had suggested looking at the full headers to try and determine which time zone your server was stamping messages with. In the above example its PDT or Pacific Daylight Time.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.
