Ongoing Volume Issue - Status re this?

I'm curious to learn whether anybody has gotten any further in addressing the ongoing volume issue so often documented here on the boards?

Also, I'd like to say that if you have to have your volume calibrated to MAX to hear via speakerphone or handset receiver (i.e., not earbuds) a phone call in a normal environment with moderate ambient noise (people talking but not a ton of people talking around you and not at a really loud level, maybe very very soft muzak in the background like in a restaurant, etc.), that's not "normal" and "ok". I think some folks have stated everything is fine with their volume level on their phones but fail to take into consideration that their idea of "fine" is only "fine" because they have the volume maxed out.

I did a comparison AT the Apple Store of a number of their phones on display and all were soft but usable at MAXIMUM volume (and yes, this is BOTH via speakerphone mode and handset/receiver mode).

Monkeying with soundcheck, et al in iTunes, TTY setting, and all of that had little to no effect on each of the 2 phones I've had. And I had never, per some posters, left plastic on the phone in the first place (that was kind of a 'no brainer' to me - yeah, plastic over the speaker, et al is going to effect sound).

So - has anybody made any progress getting this resolved as of today?

Try setting the ipod equalizer to vocal

Why would an equalizer setting on iPod playback have any effect on speaker volume in the phone app? I agree with the OP... everyone who says that changing iPod volume settings (sound check, EQ, volume limit, etc.) has an effect on speakerphone or earpiece volume is most likely just hearing what they want to hear.

I agree with all you've said. I too have two iPhones and they both have "quiet" speakerphones no matter what I've tried. I use a bluetooth headset for phone calls, but I would prefer to use a speakerphone if it were loud enough. At this point, the speakerphone is useless to me.

To you and EVERYONE with the ongoing volume issues (and it is correct and confirmed by Apple at the Genius Bar - iPod settings have no effect whatsoever over the phone volume), please go to the FEEDBACK link (either somebody needs to post it here or just go to first page for the section in discussions on the iPhone and you'll see the FEEDBACK link at the beginning of the list of discussions) and tell Apple to fix it. Enough people have to say something officially for this to get addressed in a timely fashion.
