Command-delete does not delete items in finder

Command-delete does not delete items in finder

This seems like a petty problem, but has grown to be a major annoyance to me. On my powerbook, command delete would send a file to the trash. On my new imac, the only way I can find is by right clicking and saying "move to trash." Is there a setting to be changed?

So I was fiddling around, and it turns out that command delete does work with one delete key (the big one) but does not work with the delete key that is below the help key on a standard size mac keyboard. I don't see why both of them don't work, but ok.

They both say Delete, but they don't do the same thing, they are mapped differently. The big one deletes left and small one deletes right.
My family worked taters for Big B Farms outside of Pocatello in the 70s. I used to drive a spud truck across the dam to the factory in American Falls
