POP and pacbell.net, then sbcglobal, now attyahoo

if you try to use ATT.YAHOOs new settings:

incoming: pop.att.yahoo.com
outgoing: pop.att.yahoo.com

getting mail to your iPhone will not work.

i've been trying for the past two days to get it to work. first by going to the AT&T store, which, quickly called APPLE and passed me the phone to do the trouble shooting (could have stayed home and done that). I then get on the phone with Apple and 10 min into burning up my min on my iPhone i realize that i won't have any minutes left.... Good thing i did that because now over 4 hours into tech support between Apple and AT&T... i only have send email capability.

outgoing that works for pacbell.net customers:
mail.pacbell.net

incoming that don't work:
pop.att.yahoo,com
pop.att.yahoo,com:995
pop.att.yahoo,com:110
pop.att.yahoo,com:25
pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com:110
postoffice.pacbell.net

i can't be the only one out there with the same problem.

anyone out there have a solution that works for incoming emails?

I have my iPhone working with my ATT Yahoo account. I use pop.att.yahoo.com for pop. Make sure you use your sbcglobal email address as login, user@sbcglobal.net and password. I use smtp.att.yahoo.com:465 for smtp server. You'll need to use your sbcglobal email address for login and password.

You should check the setting. For some reason, after the initial setup, iPhone deletes the smtp password. You'll need to enter it again, in order to send mail. Scroll to the bottom and tap on Advance, make both incoming and outgoing use SSL on.

Good luck.

i totally appreciate the info. unfortunately that combination is not working for older pacbell.net accounts. i'm currently at hour 6 with tech support between Apple and AT&T and keep going around in the same circle. no results.

i just got off the phone with a conference call between Apple and AT&T techiches and there's no resolution for an older pacbell.net account. it sounds like AT&T isn't going to upgrade the mail server to accommodate the iPhone.

the solution from Apple is to start a GMAIL account and have my pacbell.net account be re-directed through GMAIL. Ah... now i just wait for GMAIL to start charging for their service...

Its pretty pathetic, since i've been with the same service provider for well over 8 years and now they could care less that I cant connect, and keep passing the buck off to APPLE when it looks to be clearly AT&Ts responsiblity. Shame on you AT&T.

Guess I'm due for a big switch and will simply drop AT&T as my service provider. ARG! I'm sure who ever i get will be swallowed up by them in the near future.
