Refresh Library

Hi,

I am a total iPod / iTunes newbie. I guess I have figured most stuff out, but it bugs me, that I can not find a solution to refresh / rescan / update the library in iTunes.

If I physically move sound files on my hard drive, they obviously don't work in iTunes anymore. Can somebody give me advice on how to refresh the library to reflect the file status on disk?

Best

You can force iTunes to reread your ID3 tags as follows:

Go to your music view and selct all your tracks. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info.

Once in Get info don't do anything except exit with OK. This forces iTunes to read the tags.

On your other query, you could take a look at Itunes Library Updater as a partial workaround:

I am not sure about the forum rules for links and such, but I have found and used a program called Itunes Library Updater. It scans where you tell it to, and updates your Itunes library, either removing or adding files.

I use it quite often as I rip cd's using a different utility then Itunes, so I need a way to get the files quickly into Itunes.

BTW, this is assuming you are using Windows.
