Difference between Mac Pro 2,1 and Mac Pro 1,1

Difference between Mac Pro 2,1 and Mac Pro 1,1

My new Mac Pro is a Mac Pro 1,1 but I see some Mac Pro's are version 2,1.

Also, the firmware on mine is MP11.005C.B04, but I've seen some people reporting theirs as MP21.xxxx.yyy.

Can anybody tell me the difference between them?

Not a lot as the spec is the same between models (assuming the same comparitive processor speed). There will be a few upgraded components, they have a tighter RAM spec but that's about it.

Mac Pro 2,1 series are the newer models with 8-cores whereas the Mac Pro 1,1 models only have 4-cores (not expandable.)

Essentially the first number in a Machine ID refers to the revision series. The second number refers to the generation within that series. So Mac Pro 2,1 means it's the second revision model and the first generation in that model series. More often than not the first number signifies a CPU version.
