where is Conditional Call Forwarding?

Before getting the iPhone, on my RAZR there were options to set different numbers for call forwarding if I am on the line, I don't answer, or the phone is off (unavailable).

The iPhone only has an option to turn Call Forwarding on or off. I use an alternate voicemail service, so I need a way to set this option on the iPhone (which is obviously an AT&T network feature, not an iPhone feature).

Anyone know how to do this? I want it to forward to my 3rd party voicemail service only if I don't answer or the phone is unavailable.

I came up with a good workaround, which I am using successfully to forward calls when I don't answer, when I reject the call, or when I am out of range, to my home number.

Since GSM call forwarding happens at the "central office" and not in the phone, it's not important that the phone itself have the control, only that the network operator is set for forwarding.

Remove the SIM card from the iPhone with a small paper clip (insert in the hole on top) and put in any AT&T or unlocked GSM phone (I like Nokias because they have the most forwarding options on their menus). Turn on the unlocked phone and wait for it to register to AT&T. Then set call forwarding to your preferences on that unlocked phone. Turn off that phone and remove the SIM card and put it back in the iPhone.

Call forwarding should remain active to the settings you chose.

Not a perfect solution, but one that works fine if you're not wanting to change your forwarding settings all of the time.

Very interesting. Didn't know anything about GSM Feature Codes, but your post led me to Google to learn more.

AT&T call forwarding feature codes:

Otherwise search Google for "GSM feature codes" and it seems like there is a lot of information out there, just haven't learned yet what else works with AT&T and what doesn't.

Thanks again for the info.
