DTS Encoder - Anyone used SurCode?

Hi All,

I am considering buying a software DTS encoder. I don't specifically need DTS but there is a half price sale on SurCode and I have wanted to start doing some surround sound audio at higher bitrates than Dolby Digital. Also would like the ability in case a client requests it.

Has anyone used SurCode before? Also, is DTS a growing or shrinking technology (as in, will I still be doing DTS encoding in the next few years)?

Thanks all,
Jason

Hi Jason,

SurCode-DTS is a nice and easy to use software that does the job. It's workflow reminds of A.Pack or Dolby Digital part of Compressor. At $249 plus shipping it is a bargain. Windows only, but runs nicely under Parallels on Intel Macs. Produces fine DTS encodes in 2 bitrates supported by DVD-Video Spec, and in 2 flavours supported by DVD-Authoring software (DVD-SP supports only .cpt files).

It will neither encode DTS tracks for High-Def projects, nor there is an upgrade path, or other product from Minnetonka that supports High-Def encoding requirements.

DTS is a popular sound format for many DVD-Video titles and it sounds better (subjectively) than Dolby Digital because it is less compressed. I don't think it is going to disappear in a few years from now.
