Ipod turns on but won't play...any help!!!

I have a 30G video ipod. Everything turns on fine, I can even select what I want to play. The song and cover show up as normal, but the song will not play. It shows the play icon, but it is like it is frozen. (I can fast forward through the songs as well, they just won't play.) Same thing happens with videos as well. It will however play my ipod library (off of the ipod) through itunes. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have the exact same issue. iPod will sync and function as if there is nothing wrong. All the click and scroll functions work fine but it will not play audio or video. The counter does not start.

Here is what I have done so far.
-Replaced the logic board.
-Replaced the headphone jack.
-Reformatted iPod.
-Performed the 5r's many times

I have not found a solution and have been searching the net for about a week.

You've basically replaced everything on your iPod. Assuming you did the work and it still doesn't work it means:

1. You did the work improperly. Will assume you did it correctly. Which leaves:
2. There is something wrong with your songs/library (these aren't from Limewire are they)
3. Something is wrong with your computer.

Why not try it on someone elses computer/library to see if it works.

I did do all the work myself. Following online tutorials and being able to read allowed me to do so. You made a good note about a possible corrupted library .itl or .xml file but I have completely uninstalled iTunes and removed the local foot prints prior to reinstalling. As for the vague comment that "something is wrong with your computer", I have performed the same function on another machine and received the outcome.

Also, from reading this thread and appears there are few others newly listed containing the same issue, I feel that this is something that Apple needs to address.

Is everyone having this issue able to play music from your iPod through iTunes? I have discovered that while connected and playing music through iTunes and holding the iPod up to my ear I can hear the HD spinning and working as it should.

When I disconnect the iPod and attempt to play a song I hear the same sound for about 3 seconds and then it quits. The counter does not move and the song does not play.

Can anyone having the same issue attempt what I mentioned above and post their results.

Well I've been messing around with my Ipod for ages and I have a kinda solution....

I've noticed I only ever get the lock out either on 0.00 or during a song if i unplug the earphones before turning it off.

I have also noted that if i take out the earphones and plug them back in it locks. So I found that if I do the following it allows me to enjoy my music

One of these always work for me:
unplug the earphones, turn off the unit, plug in the earphones and wait for it to auto turn on. - normally works.
or
Leave the earphones in, turn off the unit and turn back on. Press play. -Sometimes works
or
Reset the unit by holding down Menu and Middle button. - Normally works but a pain.
or
press play and wait... and wait... and wait... and forget that your waiting and leave the earphones in and after about 20 mins it may play and scare the heck out of you. - doesnt normally work, but it does you can jump really high.

The key one is the unplug and replug the earphones in (or any jack that your placing in it)and always make sure that you plug it back in only when it is off.

Hope this helps... this works for me enough for me not to get to frustrated and want to throw it out the window.

I have the exact same problem. Mine started about 2 months ago when I unpluged the headphones while it was on. Mine plays the song, and the counter moves, but no sound comes out at all. I have tried the 5 R's 3 times. Did anyone ever figure this out. Is Ipod just ignoring this problem?

It seems that deggi was working on it. . . in so far as there were solutions posted that all indicated that the problem was with the individual. IT seems that this is a pervasive error, which would suggest the problem is Apple's not ours. . . should have gotten another device. . . $300 well spent!

It seems like there is a lot of us with this problem. Mine started, believe it or not, a couple days after warranty expired. I tried to phone technical service at Apple. Well, they just let me know that my warranty was over and...you know the rest. So I tried every trick in the book...nothing worked. I'm like you guys...waiting for the next messiah. In the mean time Apple is just out of my list...for ever.

Hey APPLE, LISTEN. I'm having the same issues when I plug the iPod into the AUX port of my MINI using the headphone jack. Everything shows up but won't play. Have to do the RESET thing. Most of the time it works and some time it doesn't. With being an avid APPLE fan and having an iPod since #1 came out, I guess I will just live with it and hope it will be fixed and hope its just a software problem. Any way, MOTOR ON.
