Printing to a Oce TDS320

We have a new Oce TDS320 A0 LED Plotter with a Postscript option. After we had no success to make a plot from the Mac i have starred to search in the web about this or similar problem. Then i found a page about a PASS queue name.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q282420/
So i made test to set a PASS queue. And it works perfectly! So may question now is, what the hack is the PASS queue exactly or what's the difference to the standard queue?

Hi,
Here is some info about print queues from an IBM site.

With printers that are attached directly to the LAN, usually at least two different print queues are available. For example, on an IBM Network Printer attached to the LAN, there is a queue called TEXT and another queue called PASS.

A job sent to the TEXT queue will treat all characters, even if they could have been command codes as printable text.

A job sent to the PASS queue is expected to contain printer unique control codes, such as the PCL command codes to switch to a small font used in the PPDS-to-PCL translation above to emulate compressed printing.
