I am NOT a new user of the iPod Nano. When i hold in the "Play/Pause" button to make my iPod sleep, it does NOTHING. In fact, i have to reset my entire iPod Nano so that'll it will turn off or sometimes i just have to let it die for it to turn off. Any Help???
You can try one more thing: Reformat your iPod in Windows (assuming that is what you are using, you didn't give us that information) using FAT32 and not a quick format, then Restore it in iTunes and resync.
After reformatting, will there be a problem restoring? Do any settings change?
At the moment my ipod is recharging as the battery ran out, I will see what it is like after recharging, and, if necessary, reformat.
Have reformatted iPod but problem is still there. Since reformatting I have reset (Select & Menu buttons), and toggled HOLD switch a few times, but I still have the problem.
Same issue here. I have tried everything possible, including reseting, restoring, reformatting, letting the battery drain..
I took it to the Apple store and they said they would replace it, but it is out of warranty (by a couple of months), so I am out of luck.
Does anyone has another idea of what may be causing this? What makes me mad is that the ipod works perfectly, but since it does not turn off its useless. If only apple had thought about an ON/OFF button!!!
Yes - I restored in iTunes. After that tried toggling the hold switch and resetting (Menu & Select buttons). Still the blessed thing refuses to switch off.
One other thing that might be of interest - I charge up the iPod through the computer's USB port (always have) as I do not have a mains charger. I don't know whether that is significant or not?
When I connect the ipod to the wall charger it turns off normally. But when it is connected to the USB cord or not connected it won't turn off.
Interesting is that I have a friend that was having the same problem and after a few weeks the ipod started working normally angain... Is it possible that there is something in "short" on the board due to humidity?
Since I have gotten the new update, my ipod nano won't shut off, what i see is when i hold the play button, if you have the time setting on the top bar, the top bar will change to what time it is and when you immediately let go of the play button, it changes back to what menu you are at. even in the old updates, i would have a few problems shutting the ipod off, but what would work is you would shut it off in the middle of the song, but now it doesn't work. the only thing that i can do is plug the ipod into the computer so the battery doesn't die.
Just bought mine last mo. Yep, my nano didn't turn off at one time, but it's not a regular thing. What I do is try several times 'til it does turn off. Hey it's a month old ipod!? Worse, it froze just now. That's the reason why I found this forum. I've been trying for 2 hours finding some customer assistance phone number here. For you who are experiencing the same concerns, have you tried bringing it to Apple Service Center? What did they say? I think of having this replaced while it's still a mo. old. I had the 1st gen, no problems whatsoever. What wrecked it is someone spilled coffee on it. 😟 OT
My Nano has gone to AppleCare Service twice and returned back - " have been unable to reproduce the symptom". And right out of box same problems. Will not shut off. My fix is to unplug phone jack and turn off.
My other problem - Nano keeps going to "Pause" - sometimes when phone-jack is touched - except when it is at AppleCare Service ??
A known problem. "Audio unexpectedly pauses with earbud movement" is one of the selections on the online selections for AppleCare Service.
